Where can I find a good online medical transcription school?

I currently persuing a career in medical transcription. I have 3 years past experience as a transcriber for a hospital radiology department - that was 10 years ago. Is it necessary for me to attend a certificate program in order for me to get a job doing this from home or will my experience help? Please let me know the names of any good online schools. Thank you.

A certificate is not required to do medical transcription, however some hirers will require CMT. I would consider applying for radiology transcription now.

If you choose to further your education, though, there are probably a hundred different opinions for each course that's available to you. Overall I believe that a course you can personally attend is best.

Online or in-person, though, I would suggest taking a very close look at the curriculum for each course you are considering. A course that includes a comprehensive anatomy section will endow you with a basic knowledge of bodily systems and the word roots associated with them. This is essential for accurate transcription and will ensure your continued employment and/or success in branching out on your own as an independent service provider.

Lastly, look for a school that has some sort of job placement program and look into its details before signing up.

Good luck!

Medical Transcription training in Southwest Florida?

Where can I go to get this type of training? I went to a seminar once last year but at the time wasn’t interested. I can’t remember the name of the company that held it and am now clueless as to where to even begin looking. When referring please make sure that it is legit. Also on average how much do medical transcription make? I know that they charge by line or something like that. If anyone who does this line of work could please give me the full details I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I trained through Meditec.com. They have an internship too that you can do when you graduate. The program was thorough but didn’t take 100 years to complete it. MTs start out low at about $10 an hour but by the end of the first year make about $18-$20 an hour.

what exactly is medical transcription and how does it allow you to work from home??

my understanding is that you type up doctor's notes on patients and then they go back to the doctor, but do you contract your services through a company??

i'm interested in the details and the average annual salary…

thanks!

It is usually not written notes you are working from but dictation into a dictaphone. This is played back on a transcription machine (provided by the company you work for) so you can adjust the speed, pause the playback, etc., while you work.

Courses you will need from the community college include medical terminology, transcription, and keyboarding. The medical terminology class is essential.

Once you have those courses, you can talk to instructors at your college about getting in touch with a company or apply at the local hospital. They may want you to work on-site at the hospital before you can work at home.

It's good money, but varies widely depending on where you live.
